The good and bad
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. As the second half of the 2008 MLB season gets underway, the Pittsburgh Pirates finally have an offense. After years of mediocrity, at best, the Bucs find themselves near the top of almost every offensive category in the National League. The Pirates currently rank fifth in runs (460), hits (863) and batting average (.262) among the Senior Circuit opposition. They also have six players who hit 10 or more home runs by the all-star break (Nate McLouth, Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Ryan Doumit, Adam LaRoche and Jose Bautista). As recent as 2006, the Pirates were dead last in runs and home runs. So, there’s reason to be excited, right? Not so fast. While the once anemic Pittsburgh offense now seems to have some life, the pitching staff is the worst in baseball. The Pirates are the only team in either league to claim a team ERA over five (5.24). They have allowed almost 1,000 hits, and opponents are hitting a whopping.

If I weren’t a sports fan I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.
I don’t collect playing cards, nick-nacks or posters with kittens on them. I don’t take pride in my lawn. I haven’t found joy in doing work around the house.
Good moves in Cleveland
I’m not sure what the problem is with the Cleveland Indians this season.
They were the popular pick to take control of the AL Central Division, and yet they find themselves in the cellar with a dismal record of 39-53.
Saying good bye is the hardest thing to do
I’ve stared at a white computer screen with a flashing black line for 45 minutes now. It’s never easy to find the words you don’t want to say.
The memories are plentiful but extremely suffocating.
NFL offseason is very juicy
Though the NFL season is over two-months away, there are plenty of tantalizing storylines to help you make it through the dog days of summer.
» Full StoryPirates pitchers need to get tougher
As I write this your Pittsburgh Pirates are in the process of losing 10-5 to the Tampa Bay Rays. That’s sad.
Even more disappointing though are the following final scores: 10-0, 8-5, 13-8, 8-2, 16-5, 8-7 and 9-6.
