Firefighters in Ohio confiscate illegal fireworks
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Columbus fire officials say cases of illegal fireworks worth about $10,000 were confiscated from a city home.
Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Doug Smith says it's unheard of to find a cache as big as the one firefighters discovered Thursday night. The items were found when firefighters who saw then going off followed them in the sky to a neighborhood near Reynoldsburg.
Residents in the neighborhood say fireworks are part of an annual block party and cost about $2,000. Neighbor Lonnie Fillman says they all chip in to pay for the fireworks and there have never been problems.
Smith says the concern is safety, and that items can tip over before blasting off and go into a crowd.
