WELLSVILLE — One broken wrist, one broken scapula, one broken collar bone, five concussions and a helmet cracked in half make up the injury list for local motocross athlete, Nick Prendes. Some would consider those to be pretty good reasons to give up the sport. Prendes said it’s all part of the lifestyle. “I think you’ve got to have a screw loose to be in this sport,” he said. The 20 year old Pro-AM racer has been on bikes since he was five years old when his dad — a former motocross racer — bought him his first manual bike: a Yamaha PW50. What started as a mild interest grew into a lifelong pursuit, as Prendes now competes in as many races as possible to obtain his professional license. Committing to a strict training regimen, Prendes said he rides every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in addition to mountain biking and running to maintain physical endurance.
