ROGERS - A woman with a group of riders was injured while crossing Little Beaver Creek on Tuesday afternoon.

The rider, Sandi Beebe from North Lawrence, was walking her horse across the creek when the equine lost its footing and struck Beebe while trying to regain its balance, said David Madison, a park officer.

According to Madison, the water in Beaver Creek State Park, was high and very muddy at the time of the crossing.

Beebe suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung from the horse.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, it appeared the woman was in shock, said Mike Bahen, Liverpool Township fire chief.

The injured woman was transported by North Star Critical Care to East Liverpool City Hospital and then to Mercy Medical Center in Canton. The woman was in stable condition when she reached ELCH, according to hospital personnel.

As of Thursday evening, Beebe was still being cared for at Mercy Medical Center.

The accident took place about a mile or two past the Ware Road dead end, off of Echo Dell Road, said Bahen. North Star personnel along with Calcutta, Glemoor and Liverpool Township fire fighters had to cross the muddy terrain in Beaver Creek State Park to reach the injured woman.

Beebe was carried on a stretcher back through the muddy, wet area to the ambulance.
