The people of Columbiana County and the surrounding area recently showed the real meaning of caring and giving.
Area residents came to the aid of the victims of tornadoes in the Oklahoma City, Okla., area. I had the honor of delivering a 26-foot trailer filled with supplies to help the people of the affected area. Through the generosity of many people, who brought in needed items, donated money, or helped in other ways, many victims of the devastation know that there are people who care and want to help, even half a country away.
In the case of the Leetonia Girl Scouts, who held a scrap metal drive and purchased cleaning products with their profits, and the children of Damascus Friends Church, who gave eight bags of stuffed animals for the children of Moore, who lost all they had, and my two 15-year old teenage grandchildren, who gave up a week of summer vacation to make the trip, loading and unloading the truck, we all can be proud of our young people who really stepped up to help.
As we celebrate our nation's 237th birthday, we remember these are examples of how our ancestors made this country the greatest nation on earth.
God Bless America.
