Wow. You did it again. Chester, you are one fine town.
If you want to have a great time, celebrate in style, go to Chester, for the Fourth of July. Each year it gets better.
Lacy Cline and her crew attracted more than 300 runners and walkers for the 5K Freedom Run; Sandy Parkins again did a bang up job in putting together the Duck Dash and the parade; and the Lion's Club car show was a real showcase of gleaming vehicles.
Carolina Avenue had a carnival atmosphere with vendors, music, and people enjoying the activities. Thousands of visitors were in town for the day. Their presence brings in a great deal of money to the local economy.
The evening started with outstanding entertainment provided by The Clarks and the Joseph Sisters. Afterwards, the evening closed with a booming, colorful fireworks display.
So many did so much to make all of this happen. The entertainment and the fireworks were provided by the Chester Fire Department, the Chester American Legion, and the Chester VFW. A special thanks for helping behind the scenes goes out to Mike Dotson, Bob Milner, Bryan Nurmi, and Bobby Brooks. The Oak Glen boys and girls soccer teams did a great job in cleaning up the town Friday morning. The city administration, street departments, and the police department aided greatly in making sure the day ran smoothly.
An additional thank you goes to the CVB and Danny Greathouse for their advertising efforts.
Again, thanks to all who attended and participated. See you next year.
