The Southern Local High School Mighty Indians Marching Band had opportunities to perform with university bands this past month. About 26 members appeared with other high school band students from around the state during halftime at Ohio University (pictured) on Sept. 7 and the University of Akron on Sept. 15. SLHS Band Director Emily Forbes-Bowling said the universities offer programs with high school musicians and her students spent the day at Akron and met up with Southern Local alumna Alexis Ensinger, who is now a member of Zippy’s All-Star Band.
