EAST LIVERPOOL — The Family Dollar located at 615 Walnut St. in downtown East Liverpool has started preparations to permanently close.

According to employee Patricia Smallwood, all items are 50% off and the store anticipates closing around April 17.

Smallwood said she believes the closing is due to lack of business and theft.

An unnamed manager said she was too busy to talk when asked about additional information and calls to Family Dollar corporate offices were not returned.

Multiple people said it was a two hour wait in line to check out as the line of customers wound to the back of the store and up and down the aisles.

Due to declining sales, Dollar Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, announced March 13 that it would close 1,000 stores nationwide within a year, with approximately 600 of them expected to close by June.

Starting at $2.99/week.
