Wood scores four for unbeaten Beavers

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s boys soccer team brought it in the second half on Monday in a 10-2 win over Brooke.

The Beavers led just 3-2 at half time before opening up the game.

Senior Ethan Wood scored the first two goals for the Beavers — at 31:13 and 21:17 — but Brooke countered both.

Beaver Local took the lead for good as junior Brayden Price hit the back of the net with 57 seconds left in the half.

Wood ended up with four goals which increased his season total to 23. He also had two assists. Price had two goals and an assist.

Kaleb Mays, Logan Roberts, Evan Ours and Kaden Mays all had single goal tallies.

Kaleb Mays had three assists, while Kaden Mays, Josh Eisenhart, Landon Wheatly and Ours had assists. Hunter Warrick had six saves.

This was Beaver Local’s third win over Brooke since 2015.

Beaver Local moved to 8-0-1 on the season. The Beavers have scored 56 goals on the season, while only letting in seven.

Beaver Local also locked up the first seed in the Class 4A OVAC boys soccer standings. Only Beaver Local and Harrison Central have winning records in the seven-team Class 4A standings.

The Beavers head to Harrison Central today.

Brooke fell to 3-6-2.

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s girls soccer team fell to Steubenville 6-2 on Monday.

Beaver Local is 5-5 and will host Cambridge on Thursday.

Peyton Dunn and Riley Springer had goals for the Beavers.

Sophia Smith had eight saves.
